The Biggest Unsolved Question

Published: January 24, 2026 — Medium Type: Essay / philosophical question Rating: 2 Stars Source: Read on Medium

Overview

A short essay posing a question Jack Luo had not resolved: how do you create exceptional environments everywhere — not just in elite institutions?

Published the same day as his Ces NVIDIA Keynote writeup, during the CES trip to Las Vegas.

The Question

For me, the biggest unsolved question is: how do you surround yourself with a lot of people in elite colleges?

The premise: when you ask people what makes elite institutions (MIT, Stanford, YC, Davos, CES) special, they always answer: the people. Not the curriculum. Not the resources. The people.

People teach classes, people do the research, and it’s that idea that you’re compressing some of the most exceptional people in such a small space that makes it powerful.

Jack had experienced this firsthand:

I’ve learned more, probably ten times more, in a few days in these elite environments than I’ve learned in many, many weeks in non-elite environments.

The Actual Question

Not “how do I get into MIT” — but something more interesting:

Is there a way you can create exceptional environments everywhere? Does it have to be constraints like this?

The vision: exceptional environments that also promote diversity of thought, without friction of access. If that were possible, “the future is going to be amazing” — pointing to breakthroughs in bioscience, distributed research, innovations that change the world.

Context

This is the philosophical substrate beneath Agentdex, Agent School, and Jack’s CRM-as-relationship-intelligence thesis. The personal CRM is, at one level, a tool for finding and maintaining connections to exceptional people wherever you are. Agent School is an attempt to create a compressed exceptional environment in a single room at MIT.

The unsolved question may be the question Jack is trying to answer with his life.
